Recipe by: Geethalakshmi Saravanane
Ingredients:
Curry leaves - 1 cup, Urad dhal - 1/4 cup, Boiled rice - 1 cup, Coconut grated - 1/2 cup, Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon, Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 teaspoon, Red chilli - 5, Salt - required. For reasoning: Mustard seeds, Red chilli, Curry leaves, Carrot grated, Idly podi little, Oil.
Procedure:
Karivappaagu is a "NUTRITIONAL POWER HOUSE".
1. First wash boiled rice 2 times and add water to it. Together add urad dhal, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, red chillies and soak it for 1 hour.
Wash and keep the curry leaves separately.
After an hour grind for batter. First add curry leaves and little soaked rice, red chillies with sprinkling little water on grinder. After curry leaves started grinding add the remaining soaked items and grind it nicely. Before taking the batter from it add grated coconut and grind.
Now the batter is ready and add required salt to it.
Leave the batter for about 5 hours to get fermented.
2. Now pour the batter in the idly plates and boil it for 10 minutes. (I used mini idly plates. If mini idly plate not available, use normal idly plates and cut into cubes.)
3. Next heat the kadai add oil and season it with mustard seeds, splitted red chillies, curry leaves, idly podi and add the idlies to it and add the grated carrots to it and mix well.
