Ingredients:
Tamarind Aval: (1 cup -250ml) Ingredients: Thick Poha -1 Cup, Tamarind Extract - 4to5 Tbsp, Oil -2 Tsp, Mustard Seeds -1/4 Tsp, Cumin seeds -1/4 Tsp, Urad Dal -1/4 Tsp, Channa Dal -1/4 Tsp, Peanuts -1to2 Tbsp, Green Chilly- 2 No, Finely chopped Onion -1 No, Asafoetida -a Pinch, Turmeric Powder -a Pinch, Jaggery- 2 Tsp, Salt As Needed, Coriander leaves To garnish, Grated coconut (optional)-2Tsp . Sweet Aval: Ingredients : Thick poha -1 cup Jaggery -3/4 cup Water -2 Tbsp Cashew -3 No Ghee -2 Tsp Grated Coconut - 2 Tsp Green cardamom crushed - 2 No
Procedure:
Tamarind poha :
1. Wash and rinse poha thrice completely.
2. Soak poha in tamarind extract along with turmeric powder, salt, jaggery for 3-4 hours.
3. Heat oil in a kadai.
4. Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds,channa dal, urad dal,peanuts,green chilly.
5. Once the dal have changed to golden colour add chopped onion.
6. Once the onion have become translucent add the soaked poha and mix well.
7. Some grated coconut can be added.
8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with mango pickle.
Method:
Sweet Aval:
1.Wash and rinse poha in water.
2.Soak poha in water for 2 hours.
3.Heat a kadai,add Jaggery and water.
4.Cook until jaggery melts.
5.Switch off and strain it in a bowl.
6.Heat ghee in a kadai,roast cashews till they change to golden colour.Remove to a bowl.
7.Add the melted jaggery, roasted cashews,cardamom powder to the soaked poha.
8.Add some dessicated coconut and serve yummy tummy sweet aval.
