Vn.Golden*KCGF Sharmila Dinesh was the first woman from our community to serve as an Area Commander of Tamil Nadu home guards for 8 consecutive years. Home guard is an Indian paramilitary police force works for the betterment of the society.
As a commander, she has bagged 3 consecutive Gold medals in the state level pistol shooting held for home guards. Acknowledging her service to society, she was honoured by the first women IPS officer Kiran Bedi. During her stint as Area Commander, she was invited by then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha to discuss about the welfare of home guards.
No matter where you hail from, being a woman entrepreneur is never easy. To add to this, often women are tied up with responsibilities, such as taking care of their family, managing the household, etc. Having to deal with such insurmountable odds, often women entrepreneurs are forced to bow out of the race. But as a Charter President of SHE – a women entrepreneurship forum, Sharmila along with some phenomenal women entrepreneurs have shattered the glass-ceiling, and paved the way for many others to follow.
Vn. Sharmila and team have organized various workshops and seminars on entrepreneurship. She also led a team of woman entrepreneurs and met a panel from Srilankan Government to assess the export opportunities available in the island country for her fellow entrepreneurs.
Mrs. Dinesh also manages a gift boutique – Natart, which showcases a variety of stylish miniatures, souvenirs and more. Peruse collections of accessories and gifts crafted by artisans of international standards are available in the emporium, the entrepreneur said.
